چکیده

Abstract. The 2008 Wenchuan earthquake lead to various complex multi-hazard chains that included seismically triggered landslide initiation, runout, river damming, dam breaching, and flooding. modeling of the interactions between such hazardous processes is challenging due complexity uncertainty. Here we present an event-based physically based model able simulate land surface process within a single unified simulation. final used chain event in Hongchun watershed, where co-seismic landslides led and, 2 years later, debris flow breached dam. While most aspects are predicted well, correct prediction slope failures remains biggest challenge. Although results should be treated carefully, development provides significant progress applicability simulations.

Landslide and Debris Flow Characteristics during Extreme Rainfall in Taiwan

As the global climate changes, the threat from landslides and debris flows increases. Learning how a watershed initiates landslides under abnormal rainfall conditions and predicting landslide magnitude and frequency distribution is thus important. Landslides show a power-law distribution in the frequency-area distribution. The distribution curve shows an exponent gradient 1.0 in the Sandpile mo...

Modeling of Fault Co-seismic Displacement Fields in Elastic Environments Based on Spherical Dislocation Theory

This research is based on the modeling of co-seismic deformations due to the fault movement in the elastic environments, and we can obtain the deformations generated in the faults. Here, modeling of the co-seismic displacement field is based on the analytical method with two spherical dislocation model and half-space dislocation model. The difference in displacement field from two spherical and...

Physically-based modeling and simulation

The thesis deals with the modeling of air pollution transportation and dispersion processes in the atmosphere, more precisely with the numerical approaches to solve such models. The modeling of air pollution has a great importance for prediction of the contaminations and it helps with understanding of the process and with elimination of its consequences. The models which are described by partia...

Physically Based Modeling

Suppose we wanted to implement a particle simulator with a “floor”: a solid horizontal plane which particles could bounce off of, or lie on. Assuming all the particles started out above the floor, they’d all have to stay there for the rest of the simulation. How could we go about implementing this? Clearly, there are two problems. We need to detect when particles are near the floor, and when th...

Numerical modeling of the Mount Steller landslide flow history and of the generated long period seismic waves

[1] The rock-ice avalanche that occurred in 2005 on Mount Steller, Alaska and the resulting long period seismic waves have been simulated for different avalanche scenarios (i.e., flow histories), with and without erosion processes taken into account. This 40–60 Mm avalanche traveled about 10 km down the slope, mainly on top of a glacier, eroding a significant amount of ice. It was recorded by 7...
